Complementary Therapies

Complementary therapy services are healing therapies used together with conventional medicine. This includes healing touch, massage therapy and other calming activities designed to enhance the medical care the patient is already receiving, by easing tension and reducing feelings of pain or anxiety.

Where is it available?
Complementary Therapy at Grant Medical Center

Complementary Services Offered

Complementary therapy services are offered in the privacy of a patient's room and personalized for each patient. Patients can access the following complementary services at Grant Medical Center free of charge by asking their doctor or nurse.

Massage Therapy:
A gentle massage may help decrease pain, anxiety, insomnia, depression and feelings of isolation. In Columbus, Ohio, massage therapy is available to Grant Medical Center in-patients with physician permission.

Healing Touch:
Healing touch is based on the philosophy that trained clinicians use their hands above or can lightly touch patients to produce a sense of calm in patients. All of the Healing Touch practitioners at Grant Medical Center are trained and are hospital employees. Healing Touch makes no claims for cure of disease.

Guided Imagery:
Guided imagery is a form of relaxation using stories and calming music that can have a dramatic impact on stress level, by "gently guiding" to an imaginary place in the mind where the listener feels safe, peaceful and protected. At Grant Medical Center, Channel  23 on patient hospital TV offers guided imagery stories and music 24 hours a day, seven days a week as a free service for patients and their families.

Drumming:
Drumming helps a patient reduce tension, improve mood and even boost immune system and increase circulation. Drumming is designed for any patient, and does not require any musical experience. Drumming is a form of personal and physical expression and can be meditative.

Grant Welcome Waggin' Animal Assisted Activity:
With the training and oversight provided by the nationally-recognized Delta Society Pet Partner Program, interactions with these specially trained animals and their owners may help patients feel comforted and more relaxed. If you or a loved one is a patient in selected areas of Grant, you may meet a member of the Grant Welcome Waggin' team. Simply let your doctor or nurse know about your request.
