How to Volunteer with SARNCO

SARNCO is looking for caring and compassionate volunteers who:

  • Are good listeners.
  • Care about ending sexual violence and oppression.
  • Want to make a difference in central Ohio.

SARNCO volunteer advocate opportunities include:

  • Helpline Advocate: Answers calls to the 24-Hour Rape Helpline and provide crisis intervention, support and information and referrals to survivors and co-survivors (friends and family members) of sexual violence.
  • Hospital Advocate: Provides face-to-face emotional support, options and information to survivors while they are receiving care in a hospital emergency department.
  • SARNCO-DWAVE Hospital Advocate: Provides hospital advocacy to survivors who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Prevention Educators (additional training provided after six months of volunteering): Gives presentations to students and community groups on vitally-important rape education and prevention topics.

All SARNCO volunteers are encouraged to participate in community events to raise awareness about sexual violence prevention and services available to survivors and co-survivors.

SARNCO provides extensive 40-hour training sessions for those interested in volunteering. These sessions are held three times per year. The process of becoming a volunteer is a selective one that includes an application, criminal background check and an interview. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.
